Subject: Please support Team Nathanial to Walk to Cure Diabetes

Dear Friends,

As many of you may know, our son Nathanial was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in October 2010, days after his 7th birthday. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent T1D, and at present-nothing you can do to get rid of it.

Due to the incredible work of JDRF, Nathanial is able to lead the life of any other 11 year old boy. Our family will be participating in a great event to support Nathanial and JDRF. Please join us for the Strides to Cure Diabetes Run & Walk on Sunday, June 7th at Brookfield High School, 45 Long Meadow Hill Road in Brookfield, Connecticut. This year our walk will begin at Brookfield High School.  As always, everyone gets an orange (Nathanial's favorite color!) "Team Nathanial" t-shirt and is welcome back to our house afterwards for lunch!

If you would like to walk with us, please email me.  If you cannot make the event, please consider supporting Nathanial and JDRF with a donation. We can make a difference in the lives of people with type 1 diabetes. Please join us or click on the link below to make a contribution!

Thank you!

Kathy and John Varda
